Reflection

As I reflect on Port City Chapter Blacks in Government Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast, I think about the purpose, the reason, and the intention of this occasion.  Although I was not a founding member of this commemorative event, I have been apart and involved since I became a member of Blacks in Government over twenty five years ago.  As a former Chapter President, Breakfast Chair, and many other leadership positions, I have fully embraced this experience.

The purpose of this event has always been to motivate, inspire, and encourage participants not only to keep Dr. King’s dream alive, but also to continue the work. We look to inspire the community to remain steadfast, accountable, and engaged for the betterment of all. As we celebrate, we bring together people from all levels of society who share a desire to move humanity forward. A key focus is providing a motivational speaker who further inspires our audience and fosters awareness, understanding, and commitment to growth.

This annual event has become a staple in the community where attendees look forward to meeting, sharing, and reconnecting for a glorious time.  Over the years, this event has grown from a small gathering to over 700 in attendance!  This is no small feat, and we attribute success to hard work, dedication, passion, patience and leaning on God for guidance.  When you leave the event, our prayer is that you are equipped and ready to do a little bit more to make this world a better place in which to live.

I commend those who have gone before me, collaborated with me and those continuing the journey.
